Taken on traditional medium format square film, this shot was one of the last shots that I took during the day. Coyote Buttes is an incredible rock formation on the border between Utah and Arizona and is highly protected as it is so fragile being made from soft sandstone. The colours and the lines are all created from petrified Sandunes millions and millions of years ago and come alive during the golden hour - Half an hour either side of dawn and half an hour either side of sunset. There are two ways to get permission to go to Coyote Buttes… The first is through registration on the website that has to be done months and months in advance, the second is through a lottery that is Drawn at certain times of the year at the last minute. You can then go the following day if you are lucky enough to win a place which on this occasion was the way that I was able to visit the Buttes.
With the mirror like water in the photo, I would strongly recommend an ultra HD acrylic option for this photo. Anything over 1 to 1.5 m will be the centrepoint of any room and a real talking point.
